In today’s society presentation is the key. When making a first impression on someone the first thing they look at is your appearance, the second thing is how well you present yourself, being able to communicate and use grammar correctly in the work can be deciding factors in how far you advance in your job and in life. Working in the medical field correct grammar and communication is extremely important it can even mean the difference between life and death.

 

     Knowing and using correct grammar plays a major role in presenting yourself. Using correct grammar says a lot about a person, according to Susan Adams you demonstrate how organized you are in your thoughts and intentions. (Susan Adams). Correct grammar in the workplace is essential, it helps conversation flow easier, and you will have more confidence. At work often times there are things you have to read correct grammar is important because many words are used in different contexts, if you can’t use context clues to figure out how a word is used it could throw off the whole story. Some places won’t even hire you if you do not use correct grammar as said in Kyle Wiens “I won’t hire people who use poor grammar here’s why.” He goes on to state that “good grammar makes good business sense.” (Kyle Wiens) Grammar is a very important aspect in today’s society.

 

    The nursing field allows you to come in contact with many different people every day, communication plays a big factor in this profession. Specifically being a neonatal nurse communication with the child’s parents instead of the child themselves is the main factor. Being a neonatologist; the nurse will need to know how to communicate in many different ways. The nurse has to be able to relay to the parents what may be wrong with their children, how to care for them, and in some cases provide emotional support and advice depending on the child’s condition. Grammar and reading skills are also very important because you have to be able to correctly relay the information to the patient’s parents. Analyzing results, write down the symptoms and medical history of the patient are all apart of relaying information to the patients. Being able to read communication media is also important such as reading and operating medical equipment.

 

     As a neonatal nurse communication is the key, I as well as the people around me and the school I go to can help me improve my communication skills. First I have to take it upon myself to improve my communication such as expanding my vocabulary, and figuring out what types of communication I will need to know in my field of study. This class has helped me a lot with communication not only teaching me, but my surroundings. Being around a variety of different people and personalities help me learn how to approach, interact and read different people. Some people’s vocabulary is more advanced than others, just by being around these people and listening to the words they use I could easily pick up on many different words which helps expand my vocabulary. Self teaching is also another way for me to expand my vocabulary such as buying a nursing dictionary, and taking public speaking classes.

 

       Communication and Grammar are very important in the work place. They play major deciding factors as in where you’ll work, who will hire you, and even if you will advance in your work place. Along with technology types of communication is advancing everyday knowing when and how to use it, is key in the workplace.
